Le Meridien Ku Chawe Inn – Zomba Plateau

Zomba Mountain is a plateau and stands 1,800m with peaks to over 2000m. Much of the plateau is forested as well as afforestation there is an incredible variety of natural vegetation from jungle-like creepers to wild flowers, ferns, thorn bushes, orchids and lichen. A wide variety of berries also grow wild and is often on sale by vendors on the side of the road. Butterfly and bird life is prolific and will interest the most avid of enthusiasts. Streams run through the forest over small waterfalls and rapids to the Mulunguzi Dam.
The hotel is one and a half hours drive from Chileka Airport, Blantyre the nearest international airport and twenty minutes from Zomba town in the valley below.
From Kuchawe there are many interesting view points and trails within walking distance of the hotel. Road conditions permitting (it varies with the whether) there is an awesome circuit drive around the top of the mountain to these view points such as Queens (where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother stood in 1957) and Emperors view (where Emperor Haile Salassie of Ethiopia stood) the most famous probably being Chingwe's Hole.
